Sonali Phogat death case: CBI reaches Goa office to probe

In relation to the suspected murder of Bharatiya Janata Party politician and actor Sonali Phogat, a team of the Central Bureau of Investigation from the national capital arrived at the Goa CBI office on Friday.

On Thursday, the CBI assumed control of the investigation and filed a FIR into the case before issuing an order for a thorough investigation.

This happened a few days after Pramod Sawant, the chief minister of Goa, said on Monday that he will ask Union Home Minister Amit Shah to turn the Phogat matter over to the CBI.

Earlier on September 12, the Ministry of Home Affairs recommended that the CBI look into the death case of Sonali Phogat.

Manohar Lal Khattar, the chief minister of Haryana, had earlier on Sunday reassured Phogat’s family that the CBI would look into the BJP leader’s death since they were dissatisfied with the Goa police’s inquiry.

CM Khattar had said in a statement to the media, “We have requested a CBI probe in writing, but they’ve indicated that first Goa will do its own investigation and if the family is not pleased with it, the case would be turned over to CBI.”

Earlier Khap Mahapanchayat in Hisar called for a CBI investigation into Sonali Phogat’s killing.

Sonali Phogat, an actor and politician from Haryana, was discovered dead in Goa last month. Her relatives accused someone of playing a role. The Goa Police opened a murder investigation after receiving complaints from her family, and they also detained a few of Phogat’s colleagues.

BJP candidate Sonali Phogat, who became well-known for her TikTok videos, ran in the 2019 Haryana election but lost to then-Congress politician Kuldeep Bishnoi (he has since joined the BJP). In 2020, she also made an appearance on the reality series Bigg Boss.
