Coimbatore: K Darshini, a six-year-old girl hailing from Coimbatore entered the Asia Book of Records on Sunday for skating a distance of 10.5 km in 41.03 minutes.

Darshini, a student of Yuvabharathi Public School, Coimbatore has set a new record in a Quarter Skating Marathon.

Managing Editor of India Book of Records, Manmohan Rawat said the record will be entered in India Book of Records and Asia Book of Records.

“Darshini had qualified for the under-seven category. She has set a new national benchmark,” Rawat said.

According to the Tamil Nadu Speed Skating Association (TNSSA) General Secretary, Muruganandam, the event was the first-of-its-kind in Asia.

Darshini had developed a craze for skating when she was in LKG. The young skater bagged gold medals in the 150 as well as the 500-metre events during the Coimbatore District Roller Skating Championship in 2014. She also took part at the state level event for Tamil Nadu State Roller Skating championship the same year.

Darshini also won gold and bronze medals at the national level event held last month in Goa organised by TNSSA and was chosen for the international level event scheduled to be held in Singapore next month.
