Bengaluru: Daniel Lalhlimpuia scored the only goal as Bengaluru FC defeated Mumbai FC 1-0 in I-League clash at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium here on Saturday.
After their win, Bengaluru hold their second position with 25 points from 12 games, having won eight, drawn one and lost three, while Mumbai are struggling in the bottom of the table with 12 points from 13 games, with just two wins, six draws and five losses. Bengaluru are now level on points with table-toppers Mohun Bagan.
Both the sides got a number of chances in the first half but failed to score the opener. But coming into the second half, the home side showed maximum intent to go ahead and came close to score a couple of times.
Mumbai on the other hand were not able to shoot the ball on target.
The breakthrough came in the 81st minute when CK Vineeth pulled it back for Lalhlimpuia who slotted the ball to the back of the net just six minutes after coming on for Kim Song-Yong.
From there on, the home side did not allow the visitors to net the equaliser as Bengaluru won a crucial match to level points with Bagan, who lost 1-2 against East Bengal earlier on in the day.
Bengaluru will next face DSK Shivajians on April 6 while Mumbai will take on East Bengal on April 5.
