London: Manchester United on Sunday were slapped with a £5000 fine for arriving late by 30 minutes ahead of their English Premier League (EPL) clash against second placed Tottenham Hotspur.
The team bus carrying the Manchester United players and manager Louis van Gaal encountered heavy traffic on way to the White Hart Lane.
In a bid to avoid traffic, the bus took an alternative route which caused further delay due to the low tunnel through which the bus couldn’t get through.
As a result of the chaos, the match kicked off half an hour late.
Premier League rules state a £5,000 fine for any delay of 15 minutes or less which usually applies for teams returning to the field of play after half-time.
In the clash, however, Tottenham humbled the Reds 3-0 to further quash their hopes of finishing in the top four.
