Pune: A day after Mitchell Marsh was ruled out of the ongoing Indian Premier League, Rising Pune Supergiants suffered another major blow as Australian skipper Steven Smith was forced to leave the tournament in the middle due to a wrist injury.
Earlier, key players of Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s side namely Kevin Pietersen and Faf du Plessis were also ruled out of the IPL due to their respective injuries.
Confirming the news, Australia’s sports science and sports medicine manager Alex Kountouris said Smith had been complaining pain in his right wrist since the last week and now he would head home for further treatment ahead of their tour to West India.
“Steve has been struggling with pain in his right wrist for the last week during his stint in the IPL. We have been working with his IPL franchise Pune to monitor this, and unfortunately it has not resolved. As such, he will return home from India for further assessment and treatment ahead of the tour of the West Indies,” Kountouris was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
