Bengaluru: Yusuf Pathan struck a quick fire 60 off 29 balls to help Kolkata Knight Riders overhaul the 185 posted by Royal Challengers Bangalore with five wickets remaining at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Monday.
Pathan received good support from Andre Russell who scored 39 off 24 deliveries to build a 96-run partnership for the fifth wicket.
KKR lost Robin Uthappa in the very first over but captain Gautam Gambhir held one end even as Chris Lynn and Manish Pandey succumbed for 15 and eight respectively. Sreenath Aravind, however, got the better of the southpaw when he caught him in front of the stumps for 37 off 29.
KKR were reeling at 69 for the loss of four wickets, before Russell and Pathan took charge to steer the team out of trouble and lead them to their fifth win of the season.
Earlier, fifties by Virat Kohli and Lokesh Rahul, combined with 54 off the last three overs, saw Royal Challengers Bangalore post a daunting 185.
After a rather slow start, Kohli and Rahul garnered pace, finding boundaries at will, to give the middle order enough cushion to go after the KKR bowlers. Shane Watson took off from the word go and contributed 34 off 21 deliveries before falling short of his crease.
Sachin Baby and Stuart Binny then scored 16 each off eight and four balls respectively to take RCB to a total that could prove to be challenging for the Gautam Gambhir-led Knight Riders.
Gambhir had won the toss and elected to field.
