Monte Carlo: Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton won a thrilling Monaco Grand Prix on Sunday to slash his team-mate Nico Rosbereg’s lead in the Formula One world championship from 43 points to 24.
It was Hamilton’s first win for seven months, since he won his third world championship with victory in Austin last October, and brought to an end a miserable run of luck and form this season. It was also his 44th victory – his favourite number.
Hamilton narrowly defeated Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo after an epic battle to win the Monaco Grand Prix here on Sunday.
Hamilton clocked 1 hour 59.29 minutes, ahead of Ricciardo by 7.252 seconds.
However, Force India’s Sergio Perez came in third, his sixth career podium, ahead of Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel and Fernando Alonso secured McLaren’s best result of 2016 so far with a distant fifth place.
Meanwhile, Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg lost the sixth place to Force India’s Nico Hulkenberg.
Toro Rosso’s Carlos Sainz, McLaren’s Jenson Button and Williams’ Felipe Massa completed the top ten.
