New Delhi: The Indian hockey team’s chances of regaining its steps back into the Champions Trophy league were dim until a ‘Chak De’ movement gave India its maiden berth in the finals of the Champions Trophy.
After suffering a 2-4 loss to Australia, India needed the Belgium-Britain match to be a draw so that they could reach the finals. But the hopes of two teams reaching a draw were as dim as fishing in the dark, until 3-3 seemed probable and soon became the reality.
India is in the second position in the points table right now behind Australia who hasn’t as yet suffered a single loss. The finale is scheduled to take place on Friday night. If India wins the match, it will be a momentous occasion for the Indian hockey team if not a a turning point.
This is India’s first final in the Champions Trophy since the 1982 tournament in Netherlands where India was able to secure a bronze medal.
