New Delhi: Indian badminton player PV Sindhu made history after beating Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara 21-19, 21-10 in the semi-final, assuring herself a silver medal in Rio Olympics 2016. This makes her the first Indian woman to achieve this feat. Sindhu will now face Spain’s Carolina Marin in the finals on 19 Aug.

The badminton player took the country by storm as wishes and appreciation poured in from all the corners for the 21-year-old from Hyderabad. Here is how Indians showered their love and blessings on the badmintor player Sindhu after her brilliant performance.

On her victory, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to wish PV Sindhu. He wrote: Superb performance @PvSindhu1. You make India proud! Best of luck for the finals. #Rio2016

Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan wrote on his Twitter account that “Never before has any Indian ever reached the finals of this sport at Rio2016. He also wrote that we should not underestimate the power of the female gender.”

One of his tweets read: “T 2352 – #PVSindhu .. aap “khaali haath” nahein, medal leke wapas aa rahein hain .. aur hum aapke saath ‘selfie’ nikalne chahate hain !!”

“T 2352 – Never ever underestimate power of female gender ! #PVSindhu you have destroyed so many ‘naysayers’ .. you are the PRIDE of INDIA !,” read another tweet.

Virender Sehwag’s wished P V Sindhu in his typical ‘Viru’ style. He wrote: “Sikh, Issai, Muslim,Hindu- Sab ka Dil Jeet gayi #PVSindhu #SportsUnitesPeopleBeyondReligion #IamProudSayItLoud.”

Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Vice- President Rahul Gandhi also joined the league by becoming the first ones to wish PV Sindhu.

“Congratulations #PVSindhu!What a fantastic win to take India to the badminton finals at #Rio2016! All the best!”, Rahul wrote on his Twitter account.

Writer Shobhaa De, who had mocked the Indian athletes a week ago for not performing well at Rio also tweeted, and this time in good taste.

She wrote: “Keep watching! A silver lining to our India cloud coming up soon in Rio!!!
