New Delhi: Supreme Court on Monday quashed the criminal proceedings against Mahendra Singh Dhoni for allegedly portraying himself as Lord Vishnu on a magazine cover page.

The bench headed by Justice Ranjan Gogoi quashed the criminal case against Dhoni, holding that the procedure contemplated for initiating such a criminal case was not complied with.

Dhoni had appeared as an Indian God on the cover page of Business Today magazine in one of its editions in 2013.

In September last year, the Supreme Court had stayed criminal proceedings against MS Dhoni.

A complaint was filed against the cricketer by social activist Jayakumar Hiremath for hurting the religious sentiments of people.
