Brazil: Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo is one of the 30 nominees of the final Ballon d’Or shortlist and clearly the favorite to win the award. After many football greats backing the Portuguese to win the prestigious award, Brazil legend Ronaldo is the latest to join the bandwagon.

The 1998 and 2002 Football World Cup winner said, “This year, if I have to choose, I’d pick Cristiano Ronaldo over Lionel Messi for the Ballon d’Or because of what he’s won.”

Ronaldo was in inspirational form last La Liga season as he netted a whopping 51 goals for Real Madrid and helped them clinch the top club competition in Europe – the UEFA Champions League. On the international stage, he marshalled the Portugal squad to their first ever Euro Championship title.

European glory, along with the array of goals, only further cements his position to win his 4th Ballon d’Or, the most prestigious individual award in world football.
