The La Liga football match between Celta Vigo and Real Madrid scheduled for Sunday has been suspended after the stadium in Galicia was damaged by a storm.

The council of the Galician city of Vigo said the match suspension was due to a storm that hit the region and damaged Celta’s Balaidos Stadium, where the match was scheduled for Sunday, reports Efe.

“The storm has damaged a part of the roof in one of the stands and there’s no time to fix it for the game,” The mayor of Vigo, Abel Caballero told Radio Marca.

The bad weather also led to the cancellation of Friday’s La Liga match between Deportivo La Coruna and Real Betis, after Deportivo’s Riazor stadium was damaged by the weather in A Coruña.

Zidane’s Real Madrid are currently enjoying the La Liga top spot ahead of Luis Enrique’s Barcelona by one point and with two games in hand.

Earlier, Barcelona defeated Athletic Bilbao 3-0 on Saturday in which former Valencia striker Paco Alcacer scored his first league goal for the Catalan giants.
