Indian cricket skipper Virat Kohli on Monday became the first Indian sportsperson to sign a deal worth Rs 100-crore with a single brand.
Kohli, India’s batting sensation and mainstay, has signed an 8-year deal with sports lifestyle brand PUMA worth Rs 110 crore.
The captain is all set to join the likes of Jamaican sprinters Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell, and footballer Thierry Henry as a global ambassador for Puma.
While talking to Times of India, Kohli was quoted as saying, “It’s a privilege to be part of a great list of athletes that Puma has. Not just today’s icons like Usain Bolt but also the brand’s rich history with Pele, Maradona, Thierry Henry and others.”
He added, “Both Puma and I are committed to a long-term partnership. I am impressed by the way Puma has gained popularity and market leadership in India in a short period of time.”
Prior to his deal with Puma, Virat Kohli endorsed Adidas, the contract for which ended last year.
