Australia ended India’s 19-match record unbeaten streak after thrashing the hosts in the opening cricket Test at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on 25 February Saturday.

Riding on the superb bowling by left-arm spinner Steve O’Keefe, after Steven Smith’s hundred in the second innings, Australia beat India by 333 runs in the first Test match. Before this, Australia had beaten India in the year 2004 in Nagpur by 342 runs (Australia 398 & 329/5d
and India 185 & 200).

Reeling under pressure, the Kohli-led Indian side never looked comfortable to chase the mammoth target of 441 runs in the square pitch in Pune.

Outplaying India in every department, Australia is now one up in the four-match Test series. The last time India lost a test match at home was in the year 2012 against England in Kolkata.

Highlights of Day 3 of 1st Test:

02: 48 PM | WICKET! Australia wins the first Test match by 333 runs. India has been outplayed in their own backyard.

02: 42 PM | WICKET! Ishant Sharma departs.

02: 40 PM | WICKET AGAIN! Jadeja departs this time. Nothing really working for the Indians. Well for a change Lyon picks this one. Australia needs 2 wickets to win.

02: 32 PM | India have no one to blame for their downfall. India has been under tremendous pressure ever since their first innings debacle.

02: 28 PM | WICKET! There is no stopping to O’Keefe. Pujara caught LBW in front of the wicket. Long vigil of Pujara comes to an end.

02: 25 PM | Game resumes post TEA!

02: 19 PM | Difficult conditions for the batsman, India has a mammoth of a task ahead of them.

02: 18 PM | India is deep trouble against Australia in the first Test being played in Pune. Mounting on his performance from the first innings, Steve O’Keefe continues from right where he left. The top batting order collapses under his whim and fancy. It is nearly impossible for the Indians to bounce back from this. O’Keefe had had 11 in the match so far. The big question being how much more?

01: 54 PM | Saha comes next after Ashwin is gone.

01: 50 PM | WICKET! O’Keefe appeals for the lbw against Aswin, Umpire says no. Smith wants to review this. Review suggest pad first. OUT. With this Australia have another and O’Keefe has TEN in the match. What a match is he having. R Aswin departs. India 89/5

01: 45 PM | Ashwin comes to bat

01: 42 PM | WICKET! O’Keefe dents India again. Rahane departs. He was never looking very comfortable, in the end, a soft dismissal.

01: 34 PM | 20 overs bowled, India 58/3. India last lost a test match in India was in the year 2012, against England, in Kolkata. It will definitely be a herculean task for India to save this match.

01: 32 PM | Nathon Lyon brought back in the attack. He is getting a lot of bounce from the wicket, not good signs for the Indian batsmen

01: 29 PM | Rahane in the middle now.

01: 27 PM | WICKET! Kohli misjudges this one from O’Keefe. He left the ball trusting the spin, ball shatters his wickets. Kohli is stunned. This is a mighty blow for India. Run chase looks a steep challenge now. There is pin drop silence in the ground.

12: 58 PM | 10 overs bowled, India 27/2

12: 54 PM | Virat Kohli comes to bat for India.

12: 52 PM | India is left with no review now.

12: 49 PM | WICKET, KL Rahul this time! This ball from Lyon stays low and the umpire raises his finger. Some discussion and Rahul goes for the REVIEW. Replay suggest he will have to go back to the pavilion. Sheer waste of the review.

12: 36 PM | Not the start India wanted. O’Keefe starting where he left yesterday.

12: 35 PM | WICKET! O’Keefe strikes. Murali Vijay has to depart. He takes the review, no help.

12: 26 PM | Lyon testing Indian batsmen straight away.

12: 21 PM | Nathan Lyon starts the bowling from the other end with Starc. The ball spinning straight away. Lyon is a tall man, that should help him to generate some extra bounce as well.

12: 19 PM | Not much of pace left in the wicket, still bends his back to generate some extra pace. Maiden over.

12: 18 PM | Australia in total command of the game now. Plenty of time still left in the game, it will not be an easy task for India.

12: 15 PM | India begin the chase. Murali  Vijay and KL Rahul to start the proceedings for India. Mitchel Starc to bowl up front for Australia.

11: 38 AM | Australia bowled out for 288 in second innings, India need 441 runs to win

11: 15 AM | Incomes Starc.

11: 12 AM | WICKET! Jadeja takes Smith, caught plumb in front of the wicket.

10: 55 AM | Hundred for Steve Smith

10: 48 AM | Jadeja back in the attack. He has been the pick of the bowler. for India. Not so lucky with the wickets, though.

10: 42 AM | Umesh Yadav, steaming in. He is delivering a tight line hitting 140 KMPH regularly.

10: 37 AM | Steve Smith in 90s. he has made the most out of the three chances India gave him.

10:  25  AM | WICKET! Umesh Yadav removes Wade. He won’t survive this time. Knicks back to wicketkeeper, easy catch for Saha. Wade did not wait for the umpire, he knows he has to leave. Australia 204/6 after the end of over number 66.

09: 56 AM | Matthew Wade walks in. Australia 171/5. Lead India by 326 runs

09: 55 AM | WICKET! Jadeja removes Mitch Marsh.

09: 52 AM | Australian lead mounting now, they have crossed 300. The chase is going to be difficult for India.

09: 30 AM | R Ashwin to open the bowling for India on Day 3 of the first Test match. Steve Smith and Marsh batting for Australia. Smith, in particular, played beautifully yesterday. he will want to keep up that form for today and for the entire season Test series in India.
