Manchester United begin their pre-season in style easing past LA Galaxy with a 5-2 win in a one sided affair. Marcus Rashford stole the show for United, scoring the opener in just two minutes to give the Red Devils a 1-0 lead early in the game.

Juan Mata saw a well carved shot deflected by the Galaxy goalkeeper Jon Kempin, but set Rashford up for an excellent goal in the 20th minute to double the lead for United. Six minutes later Jesse Lingard created a ball for Marouane Fellaini, who finished it in clinically to make it 3-0. It was a perfect hat-trick opportunity for Rashford, when Michael Carrick slid in a slick pass for the forward, but the young England sensation was denied his hat-trick by Kempin who caught the ball well.

Manchester United were a dominant force throughout the game and kept pressing into the Galaxy defence line, creating a lot of space and chances. The second half saw a completely new 11 by Jose Mourinho, who handed the new signings Romelu Lukaku and Victor Lindelof their debut.

Lukaku got into the business quickly, and had a decent chance in the 49th minute to score his first goal in United colours but the Belgian was thwarted in his attempt by Galaxy’s goal-keeper. Later in the second half Anthony Martial and Henrikh Mkhitaryan scored a goal each to make it 5-0 for United.

It was Giovani dos Santos, who scored twice for Galaxy in the last 11 minutes of the game to make it a 5-2 final score line.

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho hailed his side’s performance and thanked the LA Galaxy coach Curt Onalfo for sending out a full strength team to give the Red Devils a good workout. The manager also heaped praise on Lukaku and said he was happy with his team’s performance in the opener.

“He didn’t score goals, but he played better than the ones who did score goals…” said the United manger on the Belgian’s performance.
