Recently appointed Sri Lanka Captain Dinesh Chandimal is set to miss the first Test match against India. The player is reportedly not well after suffering from pneumonia. Former Test skipper Rangana Herath is likely to lead the team in Chandimal’s absence.
Sri Lanka’s team manager Asanka Gurusinha confirmed that the blood test which came late at night yesterday revealed that the player has got pneumonia and will miss the Galle Test.
Ahead of the long running series, this is a tough blow for the relatively in-experienced Sri Lankan side. Upul Tharanga alongside Herath is the only player in the squad with good long term experience in Test cricket.
There is some good news for the Lankan side is in form of Asela Gunaratne and Nuwan Pradeep, who will feature in the side after missing out on the latest series against Zimbabwe.
