In the 4th game of their pre-season tour of US, Manchester United defeated European Champions Real Madrid in penalties to make it 4 wins in 4 matches.
Anthony Martial was brilliant for United throughout the 90 minutes; he was among the only two players not substituted in the clash. He was a force to reckon on the left flank, creating space and challenging Madrid defenders. The first half saw some good moves from the talented Frenchman who drizzled past Real’s back line to assist Jesse Lingard in netting the opener.
For Real, Casemiro scored the equaliser in the 69th minute with a penalty. Except for a few bright moments it was a slow affair in Santa Clara, the champions and the second champions of Europe both had a good practise outing with majority of the players from both teams getting good tune up before going into their respective seasons.
Fellaini had a close shot at goal towards the end of 90 minutes but the Belgian messed it up eventually taking the game into penalties. The shootout was woeful for both the teams as only 3 of the 10 penalties taken got past the goalkeepers.
For Real Madrid Kovacic, Oscar, Quezada, Hernandez and Casemiro had a shot at goal with only Quezada manging to score.
Anthony Martial opened the shootout for the Red Devils, followed by Mctominay, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Lindelof and Blind. United put in 2 into the nets with the shots from Miki and Blind earning them a 2-1 victory over their Super Cup rivals.
The two European giants will next meet in Macedonia agian in the UEFA Super Cup clash on August 8th to claim the title of Ultimate Champion of Europe.
