While miseries for La Liga giants Barcelona continue to hover after the departure of star forward Neymar, the club’s performance has also been hampered as they struggled to keep up without the Brazilian in the opening games of the season.

Earlier this week Neymar opened up about his transfer from the club and criticized the administration, “For me, they are not the people who should be there, for the direction of Barca. Barca deserve much better,” he said.

Returning the favour Barcelona today announced that they have filed a legal lawsuit against the forward for failing to stay true to his contract and signing a new 5-year deal at Paris Saint Germain.

The Catalan club wants Neymar to return the bonus amount he was paid last year in October for signing a 5-year extension with the Camp-Nou outfit. An additional 8.5 million euros plus an added 10% of the bonus amount for late payment has also been demanded.

Barcelona have released a statement claiming that they are taking legal action against the player for failing to fulfil his contract.

“The club demands the player return the already paid sum as he has not completed his contract, As well as the 8.5m euro bonus, the club wants “an additional 10% because of delayed payment”, said the official statement.

“The club also requests Paris St-Germain take on responsibility for the payment of these fees if the player cannot do so himself,” the statement continued.

Earlier Barcelona had decided not to pay a 26 million euros loyalty bonus to the player.

Barcelona have filed the case with the Spanish Football Federation and are expecting them to take a fair decision on the case with considerations of both FIFA and the French Football Federation.

To sue a former player is not a good sign for a club of high stature like Barcelona, but clearly Neymar’s transfer saga has not gone down well with the club administartion.

Meanwhile Neymar had a phenomenal Ligue 1 debut for his new club scoring a goal against Guingamp in a 3-0 victory
