Breaking barriers in the world of boxing, Olympic bronze-medallist for India M C Mary Kom has now set new standards as she becomes the first Indian to get picked as the International Boxing Association’s (AIBA) representative for the IOC Athletes’ Forum, which is scheduled in November.
The five-time world champion has also received an invitation to attend the 8th International Olympic Committee’s (IOC) Athletes’ Forum that will take place in Lausanne from November 11 to 13.
According to news agencies, AIBA wrote in its invitation letter to the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) President Ajay Singh, “This bi-annual forum brings together athlete representatives from across the Olympic Movement and provides an in-person community where athletes can exchange and discuss their viewpoint”.
“In this respect we would like to designate Ms Mary Kom to attend the forum as AIBA representative,” the letter assured.
The event is expected to clash with the Asian Championship that will take place in Vietnam from 2 to 12 November.
So even if Mary Kom gets a shot in the tournament after trials that will take place later this month, she is expected to remain doubtful as far as her participation at the IOC event is concerned.
