It was a crushing victory for Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United who breezed past CSKA Moscow in their second Champions League group stage game of the season. Anthony Martial and Romelu Lukaku combined to produce devastating performance for the Red Devils as they paced on to the top spot of the table with a 4-1 thrashing of the Russian side. It was fairly a one sided affair in the 1st half as Manchester United attack rattled the 3 men back-line of Moscow. Anthony Martial chalked out a brilliant assist from the left flank to Lukaku, who headed home United’s opener just 4 minutes into the game, the Belgian perfected the record of a goal in every game he has started in this season so far. Just a few minutes later Anthony Martial doubled the lead for the Reds, converting a clean penalty that was awarded to them after the rough tackle on Henrikh Mkhitaryan. Anthony martial who sparkled throughout the game, rattled two defenders with his superb skills and coaxed a cross towards Lukaku who was in plenty space after Vasil Berezutsky made a terrible mistake and handed the Belgian his second goal of the night. Martial was involved in all 4 goals for Manchester United and was deservingly chosen the man of the match.

CSKA however didn’t lose patience and kept the momentum going despite conceding 3 goals inside the 1st half. They kept attacking and that’s when Mourinho’s men countered and exposed their poor goal guiding again as Henrikh Mkhitaryan who kept strolling forward and was denied a superb goal opportunity in the first half got United their 4th goal in the 57th minute to ensure a thumping victory in Russia. Soon after scoring the Armenian made way for Jesse Lingard in the 60th minute. Manchester United made 2 more substitutions in form of Ashley Young who was replaced by Matteo Darmian in the 67th minute and Anthony Martial who came off for Rashford in the 70th minute.

Ashley Young has had a strong return after coming back from his injury and today in his Champions League debut as a captain, the England international led the side well and created chances from the left. However it wasn’t all good for Manchester United as their were serious defensive errors made in the later half of the game, there were times when CSKA Moscow forwards got better of the United back-line constituting of Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof, Chris Smalling and Daley Blind in a deep winger role.

After continuous attempts, CSKA did got a consolation goal in the 90th minute when, the 19 year old substitute Kuchaev slid it past David De Gea to give the Russian fans something to cheer. The displeasure from that goal was quite evident on Jose Mourinho’s face as he was clearly not happy.

Moscow were there and they did there best to keep it tight but Manchester united’s attack once again was at helm as it overpowered the Russian side who came into the game after a 2-1 close win against Benfica in the opener. With 6 points Manchester IUnited atre now 3 points clear of Basel on the top spot.
