Indian skipper Virat Kohli in a press conference on Thursday responded to forme cricketer Sunil Gavaskar‘s remarks on the team where he had appreciated team’s performance saying it will go down as greatest India ODI side. Virat Kohli said that it feels good to get appreciation, it is a decent compliment.
Gavaskar’s remarks came amidst the onging 5 match ODI series against Australia which Kohli and Co has already claimed by 3-1. Mentioning that though comparisons are not quite correct but present the team is a very good one. The team has a good balance. India’s batting line-up goes up to number 8 or 9 and you have bowlers who can bowl, Gavaskar said this to a leading news channel.
Lauding Indian skipper Virat Kohli, Gavaskar said that he would go down as one of India’s greatest cricket captains.
Responding to Gavaskar’s remark on him, Virat Kohli further said, “It is a long way to go, journey is very far.”
However, it wasn’t a good day for the Indian team as they lost it to Australia by 21 runs in the 4th ODI, although India has already won the series. Australia’s
Speaking on the loss against Aussies, Kohli said, “Australia’s bowling in the end was quite good, they got breakthroughs at the right time and that stopped our momentum.”
India was chasing a target of 335 set by Australia. The team did start well and lost its first wicket when the scoreboard was above 100. The team was looking in good momentum but losing out wickets in the end broke during the crucial overs, the team failed to claim the victory.
The loss has also as a setback for Kohli as under his captaincy, he failed to break former skipper MS Dhoni’s record for 9 consecutive ODI wins.
The 5th and final between India and Australia will be played on October 1 at VCA Stadium, Jamtha.
