Manchester City forward Sergio Aguero has sustained injuries in a car crash in Netherlands, the club has confirmed. The Argentine was on his way to the airport in Amsterdam after attending a concert of Colombian singer Maluma when the accident took place.

According to reports, 29-year-old Aguero was seated in a taxi enroute the airport in Amsterdam after attending the concert when the driver lost control of the car and struck a pillar. The City striker is said to have fractured a rib in the crash, which could rule him out for 6-8 weeks. Two other people were also injured in the accident as per Dutch police who did not reveal their names.

Manchester City has confirmed the news of the accident and said Aguero will be assessed by club doctors ahead of the next match against Chelsea.

“Sergio Aguero will be assessed by club doctors today after being involved in a road accident on Thursday. The City forward was in Holland on his day off and has sustained injuries. He will return to Manchester this morning and his status will be checked ahead of tomorrow’s Premier League clash at Chelsea,” the football club said in a statement.

Manchester City will take on Chelsea in a Premier League match on Saturday and Aguero is almost certain to miss the crucial match. This is the second jolt to City this week as defender Benjamin Mendy has also ruptured knee ligaments and could be missing the rest of the season.

Aguero is also likely to miss World Cup qualifiers against Peru and Ecuador on October 5 and 10. It is important to note that Argentina is yet to book a spot for 2018 World Cup.
