While five-time FIFA World Cup champions Brazil are set to face Australia twice and India once during the upcoming international break, a setup also remains underway for them to lock horns against another Asian nation. According to various media reports, a Brazilian delegation inspected possible venues in Bangladesh, including the National Stadium and Bashundhara Kings Arena to to set up a possible clash against Bangladesh.
Have Bangladesh Football Federation agreed to face Brazil in an international friendly?
It’s worth noting that a proposal for a match is nearly not the same as agreement; hence, the participation remains up in the air, as are the dates, venue and the final squad. According to reports, the proposed date remains October 6, meaning the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) already face a scheduling conflict since proposed date overlaps or clashes with another commitment. Hence, the BFF will need to review the calendar before any final announcement is made.
Alternatively, the National Stadium can also be used as a neutral venue in case of Brazil’s fixtures. The reports have claimed that the delegation, led by Sergio Dimas de Oliveira, general supervisor of the men’s national team committee, were in Kolkata to inspect the Salt Lake Stadium ahead of the friendly fixture against India and came straight to Dhaka. BFF executive committee member Iqbal Hossain told the reporters the below, as quoted by The Daily Star:
“What they told us is that they can use our stadium as a neutral venue or can play against Bangladesh in future. We told them that the preparation of the ground is going on and it may take another two weeks to complete the works. They also talked to the groundsmen and told me that they may visit again if needed.”
A highly promising Asian team in Bangladesh, their achievements include historic qualification in continental events, regional tournament championships and major milestone victories in both men’s and women’s categories. They had won gold in two South Asian Games edition – 1999 and 2010.
