On the day 1, men in blue managed to pick up 7 wickets of England with 198 runs on the scoreboard. The last session of the day was totally in favour of India as speedster Ishant Sharma 3 and Jasprit Bumrah bagged 2 wickets. While spinner Ravindra Jadeja sent 2 English batsmen back to the pavilion. 

Before the tea break on Day 1, the hosts had scored 123 runs with the loss of only 1 wicket and were steadily cruising towards a good total. Opener Alastair Cook (66) and no. 3 batsman Moeen Ali (23) had a good partnership, which was a headache for Virat Kohli and men. Both the batsmen completed their half-centuries before getting out.

Alastair Cook and Moeen also got a life each as captain Virat Kohli and vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane had dropped them.

In the first session of the match, England scored  68 runs with the loss of 1 wicket. Opener Keaton Jennings was the man to get caught by KL Rahul, after scoring 23 runs off 75 balls, on a turning delivery of Ravindra Jadeja few minutes before the lunch break on the Day 1.  

Earlier the day, English skipper Joe Root won the toss and elected to bat in the 5th Test match against India. 

Team India will be hoping to bag the last match of the series and end the England tour on a winning note. Although, Joe Root and men have already sealed the 5 match series by 3-1 but will look to pile more misery on the struggling Indian side by clinching the final Test as well.
