After an exciting 5-match ODI series which India claimed 4-1, Australia has a daunting task ahead with three T-20I lined up. The men in yellow will ply their trade in MS Dhoni’s home ground Ranchi at the JSCA Cricket Stadium without skipper Steve Smith who has returned back after suffering with a shoulder injury. Australia though would have a fresh start to make after a rest of 6 days after the last ODI at Nagpur which India won comfortably, thanks to the heroics from openers Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane.
Australians would not have expected to lose the ODI series straight out in the first 3 encounters, but there wasn’t much put forth by Steve Smith’s men before the realized that it was gone. T-20, however is a different format altogether, a player on his day can turn it around for the team. Steve Smith’s absence in the dugout will be felt but it can also be a blessing in disguise for Australia who would have a spot to fill and can rope in a t-20 specialist in form of Moises Henriques.
India – Virat Kohli’s men had a good ODI series and would not want to lose the momentum going into this one. Not a lot of batting changes are expected in the side after decent rest in between the two series. KL Rahul would be in contention for a start but will have stern competition to dash off from Manish Pandey and Dinesh Karthik. Shikhar Dhawan will be at the helm of the attack opening the innings with counter-part Rohit Sharma. Ashish Nehra can be given a start despite Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Jasprit Bumrah in the squad, if the veteran gets a place it will prove age is just a number or most likely the Indian selectors want their bowlers to get some rest.
Squad- Virat Kohli (Captain), Rohit Sharma (vice-captain), Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Manish Pandey, Kedar Jadhav, Dinesh Karthik, MS Dhoni (wk), Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ashish Nehra, Axar Patel.
Australia – David Warner will lead the Australian charge in absence of Smith and his IPL fluency has for years maintained his attacking approach which supports the inclusion of both Moises Henriques and Glen Maxwell. That will be a decent move to sill in Smith’s spot as well with Warner and Finch opening the attack. All-rounder Dan Christian will make a comeback in the team and left-arm pacer Jason Behrendorff can be Coulter-Nile’s strike bowling partner.
Squad – David Warner (Captain), Jason Behrendorff, Dan Christian, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Patrick Cummins, Aaron Finch, Travis Head, Moises Henriques, Glenn Maxwell, Tim Paine (WK), Kane Richardson, Adam Zampa.
