Nikhat Zareen wins gold at Women’s World Boxing Championship: PM Modi lauds Indian boxers

In a historic win at the Women’s World Boxing Championship and a proud moment for India, Nikhat Zareen clinched a gold medal on Thursday by defeating Jutamas Jitpong of Thailand 5-0 in the 52kg final. She registered victory against Nikhat by scoring a bout of 30-27, 29-28, 29-28, 30-27, 29-28 in the Indian’s favour.

Soon after her big win, congratulatory messages started pouring in for Nikhat Zareen. Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to congratulate Zareen and tweeted that India’s boxers have made the country proud. He congratulated Zareen for a fantastic Gold medal win at the Women’s World Boxing Championship.

He also congratulated Manisha Moun and Parveen Hooda for their bronze medal in the same competition.

This is Nikhat’s second win over Jitpong as she had gotten the better of her at the 2019 Thailand Open, a result which was then considered an upset.’ Nikhat became the fifth Indian woman to clinch a gold medal at the World Boxing Championships after Mary Kom (2002, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010 and 2018), Sarita Devi (2006), Jenny RL (2006) and Lekha KC (2006).
