As India gets geared up for the three-match T20I series against Australia that will kick start this Saturday, former Indian batting maestro Sunil Gavaskar slammed the national cricket selectors for excluding Ajinkya Rahane from the T20 series as they are making a huge mistake by neglecting the inform opener who scored 4 half centuries in his last appearances. In his interaction on NDTV, Gavaskar while criticizing the squad selection was seeking answers as he raised captivating questions for selectors about Rahane and on what ground he is facing omission despite being in such blistering form.

“The man has scored four consecutive fifties, why is he not included in the team?” Gavaskar said. “KL Rahul is a fine player, but he didn’t play a single game in the five one-day matches against Australia. Why is he in the team and Rahane, who scored four half-centuries, not there?,” he added.

Gavaskar believes that there has to be some reason given by the selection committee as they preferred KL Rahul, a player who was unable to find a place in Team India’s ODI squad instead of inform batsmen Ajinkya Rahane. “Some reason has to be given by the selection committee to say ‘look Rahul is such a better player than Ajinkya Rahane in the T20 format and therefore we’ve picked him’. But a man who doesn’t find a place in the last 5-6 ODI games for India, still finds a place in T20,”  the 68-year old was quoted as saying.

“So much cricket we play, the team management, selectors take a decision and we respect it. Speaking about the competition, it is necessary and it helps you to give your best performance. Whoever gets a chance does well for the team. I have always enjoyed the competition,” he added.
