Bengaluru Cab Driver Arrested For Molesting Woman During Morning Walk; Police Investigation Underway

While waiting for a neighbor to join her for a morning stroll, a 34-year-old lady allegedly experienced sexual harassment from a cab driver two days prior. Monday, according to the police, saw the accused’s arrest.

According to them, a house on the road’s CCTV captured the incident that happened about five in the morning on August 2 in the South Bengaluru police station limits. It quickly gained widespread attention on social media.

The woman is seen in the purported footage standing in front of a house for one minute and six seconds. She is grabbed by an aggressive man who emerges from behind her. He seizes her and begins to abuse her. He pursues her even if she manages to flee and scream for assistance. She struggles to get out of his hold, but he overwhelms her. But he escapes the scene as the woman cries out for assistance.

The victim was tracked down by the police using the CCTV footage, and they requested that she file a report.

“The woman was waiting in front of the house of her neighbour in a narrow bylane to go for a morning walk when the incident occurred. An unidentified man allegedly caught hold of her and molested her. When she screamed, he managed to flee from the spot,” stated a senior police officer.

In response to her August 4 complaint, he said, a case was filed under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) under sections 74 (assault or use of criminal force against woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 75 (sexual harassment), 78 (stalking), 79 (word, gesture, or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman), and 126 (Wrongful restraint).

“Investigation was taken up in this case, and we have nabbed the culprit responsible on Monday. It is found that a cab driver used to frequently ferry corporate employees to and fro from that place (narrow bylane) to their place of work. On seeing the woman walking around, he tried to molest her. Further investigation is underway,” said Lokesh Jagalasar, DCP (South).
