Oracle Layoffs: Another Round Of Job Cuts Looms As Employees Brace For The ‘6 AM Email’

Oracle is reportedly preparing another round of layoffs as managers identify affected employees, months after thousands of workers were cut amid the company’s massive AI infrastructure spending.

Tech giant Oracle is reportedly preparing a fresh round of layoffs, months after a brutal March cut that saw thousands of employees terminated via an early morning email. According to a Business Insider report, managers have been asked to identify affected employees ahead of the company’s second fiscal quarter, which began September 1.

A Repeat Of The March Layoffs?

The earlier round, confirmed back in March, played out the same way across the US, India, Canada, Mexico and other countries. Employees opened their inbox around 6 am local time to find a termination email from an account simply labelled “Oracle Leadership.” The message was blunt, their role had been cut as part of a broader organisational shake-up, and that day was already their last. Local reports put the number affected in India alone at around 12,000, while overall estimates for the global cut ranged anywhere between 20,000 and 30,000 jobs.

What’s Being Planned Now?

Internal documents viewed by Business Insider suggest the new round could bring workforce reductions in the double digits on some teams. Oracle has not publicly confirmed the plans. The company’s full-time headcount had already dropped to around 141,000 as of May this year, down from roughly 162,000 a year earlier.

AI Spending Behind The Cuts

Oracle has tied its ongoing restructuring to a massive push into AI infrastructure, having spent close to $55.7 billion on AI data centres in the last fiscal year alone, partly funded through $43 billion in borrowing. The company’s fiscal 2026 filings reported $1.84 billion in restructuring costs, largely tied to employee severance from the plan.

A Pattern Employees Are Watching Closely

With managers reportedly drawing up names ahead of the new fiscal quarter, it’s not hard to see why Oracle staff are on edge. Nobody wants a repeat of March, when that early morning email landed with zero warning. For now, Oracle has stayed quiet, declining to comment on the reported plans, so employees are left guessing at how big the next round might be and when it could actually land.
