Thane Crane Crash: 17 Workers Succumb to Death, 3 Injured, NDRF Rescue Operation Underway

A crane collapsed on a bridge slab during the construction of the third phase of the Samruddhi Expressway in Maharashtra's Thane district, causing 17 workers to die and three others injured.
While working on the third phase of the Samruddhi Expressway in Shahapur’s Thane district, as many as 16 construction workers were killed and three others were injured when a crane crashed on a bridge slab.
According to the NDRF, five persons may be trapped, and rescue efforts are underway. The wounded were taken to a local hospital.
It was a mobile gantry crane with specialized usage for installing precast box girders in highway construction projects and building bridges.
Around 80 kilometers from Mumbai, near the village of Sarlambe in the Shahapur tehsil, the accident allegedly occurred at around 12 am.
Official inspected the accident site and took note of every situation.
A Maharashtra Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis informed that an inquiry has been ordered into the Shahapur accident.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra MSRDC minister Dada Bhuse visited the spot and took stock of the situation. He stated, “There is a possibility of more people being trapped under the debris. The rescue operation is being carried out at the site.”
PMO has also responded to the accident and expressed condolences.
The Hindu Hrudaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Maharashtra Samruddhi Mahamarg, often known as the Samruddhi Mahamarg, is a 701-km-long expressway that connects Mumbai and Nagpur.
Police and fire brigade personnel along with local agencies are engaged in rescue operations.
The project’s second phase, which was launched in May of this year, finished the 600-kilometer line from Nagpur to the village of Bharvir in the Igatpuri taluka. By the end of the year or by March of the following year, the final 100 km of the third phase will be finished up to Vadpe in Thane.
