Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar lashed out at young Indian Cricketers for their arrogant attitude
After losing to the West Indies in the second One-Day International, Team India received harsh criticism from all quarters. While India’s performance in the most recent encounter prompted serious worries prior to the ICC Cricket World Cup, West Indies hasn’t been the finest team in the restricted format in recent times.
Even if Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma sat out the second ODI, it shouldn’t be used as an excuse against a squad of the caliber of the Windies, who were unable to qualify for the World Cup. When India plays the host team in the third ODI on Tuesday, they will try to escape further humiliation.
Resentment of Kapil Dev and Sunil Gavaskar
Kapil Dev, the former Indian captain, and all-rounder, expressed his frustration toward the attitude of Young Cricketers.
In his statement, he said that “These Cricketers think they know everything. Sometimes, when too much money comes, arrogance comes. That’s the difference. I would say there are so many cricketers who need help. When Sunil Gavaskar is there, why can’t you talk? Why should there be ego? They feel they are good enough. Maybe they are good enough, but extra help from somebody, who has seen 50 seasons of cricket, won’t hurt. He knows which side the grass grows and where the sun comes out from.”
He further added that it would be inappropriate for me to comment on that as I haven’t used the dressing room in 20 years. The young players have the advantage of being highly self-assured. The fact that they assume they know everything is a drawback. They believe they are not required to ask for advice. Even if he hasn’t played the modern game, an experienced person can always be of assistance.
Earlier former Indian batting legend Sunil Gavaskar also criticized the Young Indian players for their arrogant attitude and behaviour. According to him, the present players were egoistic because they rarely come to him for any advice. “No one has come,” Gavaskar said. VVS Laxman, Sachin Tendulkar, and Rahul Dravid frequently visited me. They would come to me with a specific issue, and you could share an observation you had made with them.
