PM Modi to dedicate Veer Balak Memorial in Kutch, Gujarat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the ‘Veer Balak Memorial’ in Anjar, Kutch, Gujarat, on Sunday. 185 schoolchildren and 20 teachers were buried under the rubble of nearby buildings while attending a rally in Anjar, Kutch, on January 26, 2001.

The tragedy of this incident was felt around the world. Then-Chief Minister Narendra Modi announced the creation of a memorial in their honour. This memorial is now completely outside of Anjar city, and the Prime Minister will dedicate it. The construction of this memorial was completed under the supervision of Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.

The inauguration has been invited to 100 family members of the deceased. There are five sections to the Children’s Museum. This museum for deceased children is being built in five sections. The first section includes photographs of the deceased as well as memories from the past. Following that, in the destruction section, the memorials of the deceased children and their replicas are shown, along with the debris. Following that, a special room was created to experience the earthquake.

The earthquake will be felt here using a simulator as well as on the video screen. Aside from that, the section includes the process of earthquake occurrence, scientific reasons, and other pertinent information.

Visitors are asked questions about their earthquake experiences in the final gallery. The names of children have been memorialised in a memorial erected outside the Prakashpunj museum. The names and pictures of the innocent children and teachers who were victims are written on the wall here. To honour them, a powerful “Prakashpunj” has been erected here, the light from which will be visible throughout Anjar.

PM Modi will also dedicate the Smriti Van Memorial today in Kutch, Gujarat.
