A man was attacked in the Ahmednagar district of Maharashtra for allegedly supporting suspended Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Nupur Sharma.

BJP MLA Nitesh Rane demanded an NIA probe into the incident.

The victim, Prateek Pawar was attacked in Karjat tehsil on Thursday by a group, leaving him severely injured. Prateek Pawar has been admitted to the hospital as he got some severe blows and cuts. Local police registered a case of an attempt to murder.
Mr. Pawar had some criminal proceedings filed against him, and the police have not excluded personal hatred as a motive.

According to the First Information Report, Pawar and his friend Mane were waiting by the road. A group of men arrived with domestic weapons and started allegedly abusing him over his religion. Others joined in using knives, sticks, and stones, according to Mr. Mane.

While Pawar bled from the head and fainted, the attackers assumed he was dead and fled, based on his friend’s account of events.
Mr. Mane told the police that people near that street did not intercede as the attackers were a large group and had weapons.
