By firing the entire marketing and communications staff in India on Friday, Elon Musk’s Twitter kicked off a process of mass layoffs.
The social media behemoth earlier in the day announced layoffs that included employees of other Twitter departments in India.
Right now, it’s unclear how many people have borne the brunt of laying off. The severance package for employees laid off in the nation is still unclear, according to sources. Elon Musk, the new owner of the social media company, ordered a global restructuring that includes these layoffs.
The majority of the 7,500 global employees of Twitter are anticipated to be laid off by Musk.
The previous CEO, Parag Agrawal, was ousted last week as soon as Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk joined the business.
After informing staff that they would get notification of their employment status through email later in the day, the firm temporarily closed all of its offices across the world on Friday.
According to an unsigned internal document obtained by an American technology news website, Twitter workers received an email informing them that layoffs would soon start.
The internal letter indicates that employee badge access to Twitter’s premises will be “temporarily” turned off and that the workers were to receive an email by 9 am PST on November 4 verifying whether they had been laid off or not.
Whether or not you are impacted, “we understand this is a tremendously painful process to go through,” the message stated.
The message said, “We appreciate your continued adherence to Twitter standards prohibiting you from revealing secret corporate information on social media, with the press, or elsewhere.
