Amid the ongoing Test series against Pakistan, England cricket could have yet another embarrassing drinking episode to deal with. Pacer Brydon Carse, who is part of the Test squad, was seen surrounded by four police officers outside a nightclub in Derby. In a video going viral on social media, the Durham fast bowler can also be seen in handcuffs.
Will Brydon Carse be withdrawn from the squad?
In a video where Carse was seen in handcuffs, his Durham teammate Matthew Potts was seen speaking to him with the retired Ben Stokes also appearing the club. The 31-year-old was reportedly only detained by the police and not arrested. It remains unclear why he was handcuffed in the first place and returned to the team hotel, having been released without any charge. A spokesperson of the England and Wales Cricket Board issued a statement that said:
“We are aware of an incident which is reported to have taken place in Derby last night, and are currently investigating. We will provide a further update when possible.”

The incident nearly a month later when Stokes and Gus Atkinson were caught in a nightclub in London following the first Test against New Zealand, bringing England’s drinking culture sharply into the spotlight. While the pair was withdrawn from the squad for the second Test to face the Kiwis, they returned for the third after getting written warnings about their conduct after the ECB’s investigation. It had emerged that Stokes and Atkinson had breached some contractual obligations. It remains to be seen whether or not Carse will be sanctioned.
When did Brydon Carse last play for England?
The right-arm speedster’s most recent appearance in international cricket was during the 5th Ashes 2025-26 Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) earlier this year. A battle with injury had rendered him unavailable but was included in the squad to face Pakistan.
His last professional outing was for Durham against Derbyshire during the County Championship Division Two fixture. He took one wicket each in both innings as Durham won by 338 runs.
