US State Department Calls for Calm Amidst Clashes in Nuh, Urges Parties To Refrain From Violent Actions

The US State Department issued the statement after violent clashes in Nuh, Faridabad, Palwal districts led to the suspension of mobile internet services until August 5.

In response to the ongoing clashes in Gurugram and surrounding areas, the United States Department of State stated, “I would say of – with respect to the clashes that obviously we would, as always, urge calm and urge parties to refrain from violent actions.” This call for calm and non-violence was emphasized during the State Department briefing by official spokesperson Matthew Miller on Wednesday.

When asked about the impact on American citizens, State Department spokesperson Miller said, “With respect to whether we’ve heard from any Americans, I’m not aware of that. I’m happy to follow up with the – with the embassy.”

The US State Department remarks came as clashes between two groups occurred in Nuh on Monday afternoon which were triggered by an attack on a religious procession passing through the district. The violence resulted in the death of two home guards and left dozens of people injured, including about 20 policemen.

Due to the critical and tense conditions in Haryana’s Nuh, Faridabad, Palwal districts, and three sub-divisions of Gurugram, the state government announced the suspension of mobile internet services in these areas until August 5. The order issued by the Haryana Home Secretary stressed the seriousness of the situation in these regions.
