Nivin Pauly is one of the hottest stars in Malayalam cinema today. He has millions of women fans around the world and what’s more his work is immensely liked by a large non-Malayalam speaking audience. For someone who never wanted to be an actor as a child, Nivin has reached tremendous heights of success in a short span of seven years. The good-looking actor came into cinema in 2010. Nivin was working in Infosys, when the acting bug bit him when he and his friends from Aluva decided that they would take the plunge.
“When I went to audition for my first film, I never thought I’ll get a call,” he says. In a span of seven years, the ‘Premam’ actor has done about 30 films and most have been hits. Ask Nivin Pauly how ‘Premam’ became such a huge success in India and he says, “Even we don’t know. We thought people will like the romance and songs but we didn’t realise that it will become such a big hit. It ran for 250 days in Chennai.” The movie went on to become one of the biggest hits in his career and he captured a pan-Indian audience.
Now Nivin Pauly is looking forward to his first straight Tamil film, ‘Richie’, a remake of the hit Kannada film ‘Ulidavaru Kandanthe’ by Rakshit Shetty. Ask the actor why he didn’t pick a script before this and he replies that it didn’t fit into his schedule. And he also reveals that he had a meeting with ace director Mani Ratnam. So is a movie on the cards soon? Well, we’ll just have to wait and watch isn’t it?
In this exclusive interview with NewsX, actor Nivin Pauly talks about his journey so far, what accounts for his success, and much more.
