This cabinet rejig is said to be one of the biggest since the party came to power back in 2011
As announced earlier in the week by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamta Banerjee, the cabinet will see new faces today. As the Trinamool Congress (TMC) continues to face political backlash over the arrest of their seasoned minister Partha Chatterjee.
This cabinet rejig is said to be one of the biggest since the party came to power in 2011, and the first of its kind since the party came back to power for the third consecutive term, as reported by the local news agency.
The attempt has been referred to as hollow endeavors to clear the dirt off the slate and divert everyone’s attention amid the SSC probe.
Here’s what to expect today:
- Former Union Minister Babul Supriyo, Partha Bhowmick, Snehasis Chakraborty, Tapas Ray, and Udayan Guha is among the four to five names that are surfacing to be part of the cabinet rejig, along which some of the existing cabinets will be rejigged.
- There has never been an instance where four to five faces were inducted and at the same time, members were dropped from the cabinet, making it the biggest reshuffle the state has ever seen, said a seasoned MLA, reported by the news agency.
- Organisational responsibilities in Purba Medinipur district were handled by Minister Saumen Mahapatra, who is likely to be dropped off from his responsibilities, along with Paresh Adhikary whose name surfaced in the SSC probe is also likely to be relieved from his ministerial duty.
- On the other hand, Partha Chatterjee, was responsible for pivotal departments like Commerce and industry, Enterprises, and Parliament affairs.
