New Delhi: Two explosions devastated the departure area of the Zaventem airport in the Belgian capital, triggering panic in the city of Brussels on Tuesday. It was followed up by another explosion in the Brussels metro station, sending the security agencies into a tizzy.
At least 17 people have been reported dead with several more injured. Ten more people are feared to be dead in the metro station attack. Many flights have been delayed and other flights are stuck including four Jet Airways flight. 2 flight staff of Jet Airways were injured in the blast.
As per current reports, two Indians have been injured. Amit Motwani and Nidhi from Mumbai are Jet Airways crew members who were injured in the attack.
Statement give by the Jet Airways spokesperson:
“As per initial information, Jet Airways guests in Brussels have been re-located to a safe location by the Brussels Airport authorities. At this time passengers and staff have been cordoned off and are not allowed to access the airport terminals. Jet Airways staff and crew are safe. Two of our staff have been injured and are receiving medical care.
Jet Airways is closely monitoring the situation in Brussels and will provide further updates as information becomes available.”
According to sources, gunshots and chants in Arabic were heard before the explosion.

Travellers have been asked to move out through the emergency passage by the security agencies. A terrorist attack is suspected and security measures are being taken. Rail and other means of public transport have been stopped.
The airport has been shut down after evacuation. As per reports, the explosions took place at the departure lounge. The cause of the explosion is still unclear.

The attacks come shortly after the November 13, 2015, Paris terror attacks. The key suspect of those attacks, Salah Abdeslam, was shot in the leg and arrested in a large police operation on March 18 in Brussels.
