New Delhi: An earthquake measuring a magnitude 7.8 struck down on Sunday in New Zealand. The geological department has issued Tsunami warning after a quake struck 91 km off Christchurch.
According to initial information, first Tsunami wave has hit the east coast of New Zealand. However, there have been no reports of any damage or casualities so far.
Christchurch is the largest city in the South Island of New Zealand and the seat of the Canterbury Region.
Christchurch urban area lies on the South Island’s east coast, just north of Banks Peninsula. It is home to 389,700 residents, making it New Zealand’s third most-populous urban area after Auckland and Wellington.
