French soldier opens fire after a man who attempted to attack him near Paris’ Le Louvre museum on Friday. The man was shot five times by soldier, who sustained light wounds in the attack.

The attacker armed with a knife was carrying a suitcase is believed to have tried entering an underground shopping area outside the Louvre museum.

Louvre museum has been closed for the moment with police immediately cordoning off access to the museum.

Police did not find any explosives after checking the contents of the two backpacks said French interior ministry in a tweet.

The attacker reportedly shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’ – God is great before being shot. The identity of the man was not immediately known. 

France has been hit by a series of militant Islamist attacks over the past two years.
