At least 20 people were killed on Tuesday and 30 others injured in an explosion inside a Shiite Muslim mosque in Afghanistan’s Herat city, officials said. The explosion occurred inside Jawadia Mosque in western Herat on the border with Iran.
According to reports, attackers opened fire and threw grenades inside the mosque during evening prayers.

Dr Mohammed Rafique Shehrzad, an Afghanistan hospital official, said that 20 bodies were brought to his hospital in Herat city.
So far no group has claimed the responsibility for the attack.
Shiites, who are in a minority in Afghanistan, have always been targeted by the Islamic State militants operating in the country.
