Indication of "Significant escalation", China's attack on Taiwan, missiles fired into Japan's exclusive economic zone: Blinken

Blinken said, “China has chosen to overreact and use Speaker Pelosi’s visit as a pretext to increase provocative military activity in and around the Taiwan Strait”.

According to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Friday, China’s military drills against Taiwan, which include missiles fired into Japan’s exclusive economic zone, indicate a “significant escalation.”
Blinken said, “China has chosen to overreact and use Speaker Pelosi’s visit as a pretext to increase provocative military activity in and around the Taiwan Strait”.


The island’s military is keeping an eye on the situation, said the defense ministry of Taiwan on Friday.
US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi addressing Tokyo during the last leg of her Asia visit on Friday said, “We will not allow (China) to isolate Taiwan.”

According to media reports, China activated over 100 aircraft, including fighter jets and bombers, and over ten warships on Thursday, deploying dozens of airplanes and firing live missiles close to Taiwan. The deployment was related to the two-day military exercise scheduled to end on Sunday.
