Mahinda Rajapaksa and family shifted to Sri Lankan naval base: Reports

As per a report by the Colombo Gazette, helicopters were spotted leaving the capital city of Colombo with VVIPS on board. The VVIPs were speculated to be members of the Rajapaksa family.

Mahinda Rajapaksa and his family have reportedly been shifted to Trincomalee Naval Base a day after his resignation as the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka amid the worsening economic crisis in the island nation. According to Daily Mirror, a protest has begun in front of the naval base after reports emerged that the former Lanka PM and his family are present there.

On Monday, Mahinda Rajapaksa’s residence in the city of Kurunegala in the north-western province was set on fire on Monday, hours after the leader tendered his resignation to President Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
