Maryam Sharif, Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) leader and daughter of former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, on Saturday said that she and her father will return to Pakistan on July 13. Her remarks come a day after a Pakistan anti-corruption court held both father and daughter guilty in the Avenfield corruption case. The National Accountability Court (NAB) also sentenced Maryam’s husband and PML(N) lawmaker a year in jail. Yesterday, former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, addressing media in London, said that he is not a thief and will return to Pakistan.
The father-daughter duo would return to Pakistan before the expiry of the 10-day deadline given by NAB court to file against their sentence in corruption case.
Political experts believe that it is a significant political development in Pakistan since general elections are due this month and it is a major blow for PML(N).
The Avenfield case is one of the three corruption casee against Nawaz Sharif and family in Panama Papers scandal.
