PV Sindhu crashes out of Swiss Open

PV Sindhu, an Indian badminton player, withdrew from the women’s singles tournament, while HS Prannoy and Kidambi Srikanth withdrew from the men’s singles competition at the Swiss Open 2023 in Basel on Thursday. Sindhu, the reigning champion, was defeated in the round of 16 by Indonesia’s Putri Kusuma Wardani 21-15, 12-21, 21-18. Meanwhile, world No. 9 and sixth seed HS Prannoy fell to unseeded Christo Popov of France 21-8, 21-8. Prannoy upset All England Open finalist Shi Yu Qi of China on Wednesday to advance to the men’s singles pre-quarterfinals.

In the men’s doubles, India’s Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, the second seeds, defeated Chinese Taipei’s Fang-Chih Lee and Fang-Jen Lee 21-12, 17-21, 28-26 to advance to the quarter-finals. The duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty is the last remaining Indian challenge at this year’s Swiss Open badminton tournament.
