Quad Leaders Summit 2022 LIVE Updates: PM Modi-Fumio Kishida hold bilateral talks

Since the inception of Quad grouping in 2019, this is the second in-person meeting of member countries’ heads.

The Quad leaders summit has kickstarted in Tokyo, Japan on Tuesday. Since the inception of Quad grouping in 2019, this is the second in-person meeting of member countries’ heads. The summit was held virtually in the last two years due to the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. The leaders in attendance include Prime Minister Narendra Modi, US President Joe Biden, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and the newly elected Australian PM Antony Albanese.

As per PM’s itinerary, the Quad summit is scheduled from 6:55 AM-8:55 AM IST, which will be followed by launch of Quad fellowship at 9 AM IST, lunch hosted by Japan PM at 9:15 AM IST, meeting with Joe Biden at 11 AM IST, meeting with Antony Albanese at 12:30 AM IST, meeting with former Japanese PM Yoshihide Suga at 1:30 PM IST, meeting with Japan-India Association chairman at 2 PM IST, meeting with Japan PM at 2:40 PM IST and banquet dinner hosted by Japan PM at 3:30 PM IST.

On day 1 of his visit in Japan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a warm welcome from the Indian diaspora in Tokyo. He then met Japanese business leaders, including NEC Chairman Nobuhiro Endo, UNIQLO Chairman/President & CEO Tadashi Yanai, Suzuki Motor Corporation Adviser Osamu Suzuki and President/CEO of Softbank Group Corp Masayoshi Son to discuss investment opportunities.

PM Modi concluded the first day of his Tokyo trip by participating in the launch of Indo-Pacific Economic Partnership, followed by roundtable with Japanese business leaders.
