PM Modi Holds Massive Roadshow In Puducherry Ahead Of Assembly Polls, Urges Workers To Boost Ground Campaign And Convert Support Into Votes (Via X)
With just a week left for the Puducherry Legislative Assembly elections, PM Narendra Modi held a major roadshow from Ansari Duraisamy Road to Kamaraj Salai in the Union Territory. The event was attended by N. Rangasamy, A. Namassivayam and BJP state president and Raj Bhavan constituency candidate A. John Kumar, along with a large number of supporters.
Earlier, while interacting with BJP workers, Modi asked them to intensify grassroots efforts and convert public support into votes. He reiterated his development vision for Puducherry through the “BEST” mantra – Business, Education, Spirituality and Tourism.
“When I visited Puducherry, I gave the mantra of BEST for its development. I’m happy that people, especially the youth, have liked it,” he said.
He also stressed the importance of booth-level mobilisation, urging workers to follow the slogan “Mera Booth, Sabse Mazboot” and reach out to voters door-to-door. Taking a swipe at the Opposition, Modi said, “Congress-DMK means Family First, BJP-NDA means Puducherry First, India First.”
The Prime Minister accused the Congress-DMK alliance of focusing on dynastic politics instead of governance, adding that internal conflicts within the bloc show a lack of commitment to public welfare.
He also asked party workers to engage women voters directly and share information about safety and welfare measures. Citing data, he said the women’s crime rate in Puducherry is 25, lower than the national average, and all cases are actively investigated.
Highlighting central schemes, Modi urged workers to spread awareness about women empowerment initiatives, including the Lakhpati Didi campaign, and focus on improving both safety and income opportunities for women.
Modi also pointed to Puducherry’s tourism-driven economy, stating that the number of visitors has doubled in recent years due to better connectivity and policy measures. He emphasised unity among NDA allies, saying that creating a positive atmosphere is not enough during elections and must be converted into actual votes through strong booth-level efforts.
Polling in Puducherry will be held on April 9, while counting of votes is scheduled for May 4, as announced by the Election Commission of India. The current term of the 30-member Assembly is set to end on June 15.
In the 2021 Assembly elections, AINRC emerged as the largest party with 10 seats, followed by DMK with six seats, while BJP and Congress secured six seats each. Voter turnout stood at 84.8 per cent. In 2016, Congress had won a majority with 15 seats, followed by AINRC with eight, AIADMK with four, and DMK with two seats. The voter turnout then was 83.6 per cent.
