Ajay Devgn and Om Raut previously collaborated on the blockbuster Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, which emerged as one of Ajay Devgn’s highest-grossing films. Now, it appears the duo may be gearing up to expand the franchise with another grand historical outing.
According to reports by Bollywood Hungama, Ajay Devgn is keen to take the ‘unsung warrior’ franchise forward and is currently in discussions with Om Raut for a new film based on a Maratha warrior.
A source revealed that Ajay had been waiting for the right story to continue the franchise. When Om Raut approached him with a compelling narrative centred on another unsung Maratha hero, the actor immediately came on board and is said to be highly enthusiastic about the project.
The report further suggests that Ajay Devgn has asked the team to carefully plan the film’s VFX budget, ensuring a balance between scale and cost. The project is reportedly in the early stages of development, with world-building work underway at NY VFXWaala. An official announcement could be made soon, as discussions with leading studios to back the film are already in progress.
Additionally, Ajay Devgn and Om Raut have been holding multiple meetings to refine ideas for the next installment. The film is being seen as a return to rooted storytelling for Om Raut, who is eager to revisit and relearn the nuances of grounded, large-scale filmmaking alongside Ajay Devgn.
Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior (2020) is a blockbuster Hindi historical action film starring Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan, and Kajol. Directed by Om Raut, it depicts the 1670 Battle of Sinhagad, where Maratha warrior Tanhaji Malusare fights to recapture Kondhana Fort. It won3 National Film Awards, including Best Actor for Devgn.
