Coolie Box Office Collection Day 5: Rajinikanth’s Action Thriller Smashes Rs 200 Crore In India

Rajinikanth’s Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj is the hot topic of the town and has set the Indian box office ablaze, with Rs 206.50 crore gross including a whopping collection of Rs 12 crore on the fifth day, despite a Monday slowdown. This Tamil action thriller has further boosted Rajinikanth’s legacy in cinema as this was the marking of his 50th year. The craze is still fresh and the film continues making headlines. 

Coolie’s Record-Breaking Opening and Sustained Momentum

Coolie hit theaters on August 14, 2025, storming into with a historical Rs 65 crore net opening day, of which a whopping Rs 44.5 crore came from Tamil Nadu alone. The Telugu markets added Rs 15.5 crore, Hindi added ₹4.5 crore, and Kannada counted with Rs 0.5 crore. 

The film grossed Rs 151 crore worldwide on day one, setting it far ahead of Leo as the biggest opener in Tamil history. By its second day, it grossed Rs 158.25 crore in India, while a global collection of Rs 300 crore.

Day 5 made 50% occupancy in Chennai, while NCR witnessed an occupancy of 9.75%. The film had an overall 14.29% Hindi occupancy on August 18, 2025. Coolie continues to make history despite a 29.5% decline on day five, as it earned Rs 5.6 crore by 6:30 PM, overtaking War 2’s Rs 179.13 crore.

Star Power and Cinematic Spectacle

The film’s top cast include Nagarjuna Akkineni, Shruti Haasan, Upendra, and Sathyaraj and Aamir Khan in a cameo. Signature Rajinikanth charmed with a powerful score from Anirudh Ravichander, and visuals certified by IMAX completes the package.

Lokesh Kanagaraj’s storytelling is laced with action, topped with twists every 15 to 20 minutes, making the audience interested, while reviews are mixed pointing out a weak screenplay. It features very high-energy sequences with nostalgia and has been labeled as a blockbuster both for hardcore Rajinikanth fans.

Coolie’s Global Dominance and Future Prospects

Coolie has earned an impressive $18 million (Rs 160 crore) in the overseas territory by its fourth day, this being the largest of the worldwide films, defeating other ones like Weapons and Freakier Friday. Under Rs 393 crore worldwide in a span of four days, it is all set to challenge the all-time records of Tamil cinema.

Pyre Leaks and War 2 competing with it might still not affect Coolie’s phenomenal march, which continues to be fueled by Rajinikanth’s timeless superstardom, with the promise that it will certainly redefine Tamil cinema’s box office legacy.
